February 18, 2011
Laura A. Dummit
This half-day briefing focused on national health care spending, which reached $2.5 trillion in 2009. Speakers presented on the basics of health care spending, growth, and managing costs. They covered the distribution of health care spending in the United States, the causes of high U.S. health care spending, the challenges in controlling spending, policy levers to address spending, and experience in pushing and pulling those levers.
In 2015, a new version of the Forum's Health Policy Essentials series was conducted; please see its briefing book here.
