Dually Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid: Two for One or Double Jeopardy?
October 22, 2003
Nora Super & Jennifer Ryan
This meeting focused on beneficiaries known as “dual eligibles,” who are eligible for health insurance coverage through both Medicare and Medicaid. Speakers will describe the characteristics of this population and the ways the two programs intersect to provide benefits and services. Ongoing challenges associated with enrollment and eligibility, integration and coordination, and managed care were discussed. State initiatives to better serve the dually eligible population, including efforts underway in Texas and Wisconsin, were presented. Finally, speakers explored the implications of Medicare prescription drug proposals for dual eligibles.
